Target Participants:
* This course is designed for individuals interested in developing their leadership capacities within international contexts. Program materials and examples will be drawn from a variety of sectors, including corporate, government, non-governmental, and not for profit.
Purpose:
* The overall purpose of this course is to:
Develop participants’ unique leadership skills and capacities
Explore ways to express these skills and capacities in international contexts
Develop participants’ understanding of ways to support the leadership development of others
* It is intended that participants will engage together in ways that:
Encourage creativity
Broaden and deepen their views on leadership in international contexts
Encourage them to commit to their own development as transformative leaders
Methodology
* Interactive: lecture, large-group discussion, individual reflection, experiential exercises and discussion of video segments. Emphasis will be placed on the application of the theory and practice of transformational leadership to real-time professional questions and experience.
Content:
This course will focus on the theory and practicality of leadership in international contexts. The following questions will guide the inquiry in the session(s):
* Transformational leadership suggests that “a leader’s job is to create more leaders.” How do cultural dynamics influence this perspective?
* How are intercultural competencies a part of becoming a “transformational leadership?”
* How can intercultural competencies be integrated with the process of becoming a transformational leader? What is the relationship between creativity and transformational leadership?
* How can transformational leaders create workplace environments that encourage creativity and synergy among subordinates or clients with differing cultural identities?
* How can participants increase skills and capacities to support their own experiences as transformational leaders?
Training Program Outcomes:
At the conclusion of this program, participants will have:
* Understood a theoretical framework for guiding their own and others’ leadership development.
* Understood how to become transformational leaders in their own internationally-focused organizations.
* Created personal leadership development plans and strategies, guided by their own visions and values, to apply in the global context.
